Combattant verié – Philomachus pugnax – Ruff

It was raining this Saturday morning at dawn on Liminganlahti Bay, the most remarkable wetland of Finland, when Jari Peltomäki – photographer and president of finnature.com – deposited us on the lookout. I do not expect a beautiful show and some beautiful lights. Ruffs fifteen turns before my eyes just across the foggy glass.

Male Ruff looks extraordinary, because it carries a large collar and on the sides of the head, Tufts of feathers (mumps) erectile as the collar. These ornamental feathers colouring varies from white to grey, red and black with streaks and bars.
